Mobile Library & Housebound

Western Isles Mobile Library Van

We offer a mobile library service; our van Lachaidh covers Benbecula & the Uist islands and our second van, Lexy, covers Lewis & Harris.
Both vans carry a variety of stock to cater for all ages and interests.

Users can come onboard and browse the books in the van and/or use the request system.
You can request books online once logged in to your library account or our driver librarians can put requests on books for you. Once the books are ready for pick up, they’ll be available from the van.

If you are housebound or do not wish to browse the stock in the van, our driver librarians can also deliver a pre-selected collection of books to your home.

Please note that the mobile library service operates on a 4 week rota. Here is the current timetable for Lexy – Lewis & Harris mobile library.

If you would like Lachaidh or Lexy to stop at your house, please email library.enquiries@cne-siar.gov.uk.
You can also phone Lionacleit Library at 01870 603691 or Stornoway Library at 01851 822744.

Two short films of the Lewis Mobile Library and the Harris Mobile Library shot in September 2015 - one day in Uig, another one in South Lochs - to promote what we do and show why the Mobile Library Service is such an important part of the Western Isles Libraries Service. We hope you enjoy it!
