Welcome to the events & news page for Western Isles Libraries! We are excited to offer events and activities for all ages and interests, taking place at our four library locations: Castlebay, Lionacleit, Stornoway and Tarbert. From author talks and book clubs to arts and crafts workshops and children's storytelling sessions, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Make Music day at Tarbert Library

Are you interested to see some instruments and sheet music, experience people rehearsing and playing music, meet musicians and ask questions about music and instruments? Come and check out 'We Make Music Day' at Tarbert Library. Dear Hearadh musicians, lovely people in Harris and Lewis, if you want to come and play music at Tarbert Library Mo, Tue or Thu 4pm-6pm next week...let us know if you are interested.

Come along to the launch of Frank Rennie's new book, 'Among the Layers of the Land', on Friday 5th July at 7pm, at Stornoway Library.

Summer Reading Challenge 2024

The Summer Reading Challenge 2024 is starting on the 18th June at the Western Isles Libraries. For children aged 4-11.

How to take part:

  • Choose a book from your local library - this can be any book i.e picturebooks, junior fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, audiobooks, poems or e-books.
  • Once you have chosen your book, ask a member of staff to sign you up to the challenge, and you will recieve a leaflet where you can keep track of the books you read and rate it out of three.
  • Each time you finish a book, pop to the library where you will collect a special sticker.
  • Once you have read all 6 books, pop back to the library where you will recieve small prizes.
  • Every child that completes the challenge will recieve a certificate and medal usually at our celebration in October!

The poster has QR codes throughout which you can scan to find fun activities, or head to https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/ for more activities, games and videos. You can also create your own profile and write book reviews.

OH!Cards - Card Swap and games at Stornoway Library

The Oh!Con, Oh!Cards group meet once a month 2-4pm on a Saturday in The Space at Stornoway Library for card swaps and games.
